Well done to all who took part in the annual Fairtrade Football Tournament which kicked off at Cavendish Fields last Thursday in blustery conditions. On a cool and windy afternoon five teams from 4 local primary schools took part. The whole event was good humoured and there was a terrific sporting atmosphere.

Laura Stevens from Matlock Fairtrade Group organised the event for the eighth year running. Before the football started she talked to the children about Fairtrade and explained the importance of using Fairtrade footballs.
Each school was given a Fairtrade football after the tournament, as were the referees, who were all from Highfields School, most of whom had themselves played in the competition when they were at primary school.

The tournament took the form of a league with all the teams playing each other.

All Saints were the worthy winners and scored 10 goals on the way to being champions.

St Giles were runners-up and the referees awarded Tansley the Fair Play Trophy.
